Christmas Decorating ideas for the Staircase

Christmas Decorating, Home inspiration

Garlands.

Garland is the best base to start decorating your stairs for Christmas. You can use fresh garland or artificial. Drape or twist the garland up the stair railing and add other elements like ornaments, ribbon, or lights to complete the look.

For something a little more classical, you can buy or make an excellent garland made of natural components. Head out to the garland and start collecting leaves, twigs, chestnuts, or anything else that takes your fancy. Garlands made of natural ornaments add an exquisite look to the general Christmas decoration.

Try an unconventional garland for a unique and cheerful bannister decoration, skip the traditional greenery and string up some paper pom-poms instead or maybe even some spare Christmas ornaments or baubles.

Lettering.

Simply spelling out a festive word on each step is a great way to add some festive charm to your home. Our favourite style is using LED lettering because it makes the room a little lighter and brighter.

Dangling stockings.

If you do not have a fireplace or mantel to hang your stockings, a great alternative is to hang them on your stairwell! The possibilities are endless; you could use striped stockings to add a fun Holiday vibe to the living room or create a cosy atmosphere by using traditional red stockings.

Stacked Presents.

If you have a couple of old boxes lying around, you could transform them into a festive feature. Wrap the boxes like presents and place on the stairs. You can swap the colours and wrapping paper each year to match your Christmas colour theme.

Wrapping lights.

Decorating with string lights and candles adds a warm, homey feel to your home for the holidays. If a power outlet is not nearby, or you are worried about having candles near kids or pets, choose battery-operated LED string lights or faux LED candles. A combination of string lights and candles light the stairwell of this Nordic Christmas setting. Hang lights up and down your stair railing like a waterfall to create a Christmas Wonderland effect

Festive pictures.

One of the fastest ways to transform any space for Christmas is by adding in festive artwork. You can use photographs, print or different festive text. Place them along the adjoining wall to the stairs for a simple and festive Christmas decoration option.

Ribbon.

The ribbon is a fast, easy way to add some holiday cheer to your stairs. Choose large ribbon with wiring so that you can easily mould the ribbon. We love using ribbon with silver, sparkly accents and layering that over a flocked garland. Tie in the whole look by adding colour-coordinated decor like wall art, floor-standing ornaments.
