When’s the best time to put up your Christmas decorations?
It’s still only November but some households up and down the country are already trimmed up for Christmas.
At ChristmasTimeUK, as lovers of all things Christmassy, we think the earlier you put up your tree the sooner you get into the festive spirit.
People used to wait until Christmas Eve to put up their Christmas tree. But with the shops full of Christmas decorations immediately after Halloween is over, it seems the festive periods gets earlier and earlier each year.
Is this weekend too early to trim up?
Nowadays, most people tend to wait until December 1 at the earliest to put up their tree and deck the halls.
With December 1st falling on a Saturday this year, and with most people traditionally waiting until the weekends to trim up, expect a lot of your friends and family to put their tree up then. If not that weekend, then the following Saturday, December 8, will almost certainly prove popular.
Should I leave it late if buying a real tree?
No. If you opt for an artificial tree, of course, you can put it up at a time that’s convenient for you. However, if you favour a real tree then time is of the essence.
Real trees need to be placed in water as soon as possible after they are cut and regularly watered going forward to preserve their appearance and prevent the needles from dropping.
With a lot of trees imported from overseas, the earlier you buy your tree from your local farm, garden centre or supermarket the better. While you may think it’s best to buy it just before Christmas Day, the opposite is, in fact, the best course of action as your tree is more likely to be freshly cut.
Once you’ve placed your tree in water, remember to keep watering it daily and don’t place it near radiators as it will soon dry up.
When should you take your Christmas tree down?
Every year, the date to take down your Christmas decorations always causes confusion as people are unsure as to when the 12 days of Christmas ends.
Traditionally the date to take them down is January 6. Any date after that and you could be risking bad luck.
